As the BC Lions kickoff the 2013 season Friday in Calgary, they will also be kicking their social media programs into high gear for their 60th season. The club is inviting 50 fans to join them for their first “Tweetup” of the season at the Shark Club in downtown Vancouver. The event will also mark the launch of the 2013 Felions calendar.

If you haven’t heard, or are unfamiliar with Twitter, a tweetup is an organized meeting of Twitter followers, who usually share a common interest. The idea is to meet new people, put names to the twitter handles and generally just have a good time.

What better way to kick off the new season to watch the game with other Lions fans in a fun and social environment? The Shark Club will be providing food and drink specials for the event and there will be prizes, including signed photos and tickets to the club’s home opener on July 4th. They’re even hinting at a special guest or two.

I myself will be in Calgary for the game but if I wasn’t I would certainly be attending this event.

Tickets are free through Eventbrite, and are limited to 50 people, so get them while you can.
