About The BCLionsDen Pawdcast – We’re back!
Welcome to BCLionsDen.ca and in particular our podcast, or pawdcast as we like to refer to it. My name is Brian Wawryshyn, and I have been a fan of the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League for 49 years and counting and a season ticket holder since 2003.
Born in May of 2013, the original show ran until March of 2021. At that time, the burnout had kicked in, and being a fan had become secondary to running the podcast. It has become a job and quite frankly, I just missed being a fan first. The show started to become just labour instead of a labour of love. When that happens, you’re cheating your listeners and begin to phone it in. The listeners and the team deserve better than that.
Now, in 2025, the bug has returned. The podcast game has changed. Video podcasts have taken over, with live fan engagement. This is something I always felt was missing from the original version of the show, the fan interaction. Shows that continued on, The 2 and Out CFL Podcast and The Turf District, inspired me again with their new formats. I started to miss it, and after about a year of tossing it around, I decided I wanted to ressurect the show.
Sports radio in Vancouver had taken a hit with the loss of TSN1040, who were the radio rights holders for BC Lions at the time. Traditional print writers such as the great Lowell Ullrich retired, and the need for more coverage of the team has never been greater. I wanted to try and help fill that void again.
The new show will attempt to be more fan based, a sounding board for Lions and CFL fans. We will still have special guests, media members, team officials, eventually some players. But we want to do this right, and know that we need to rebuild your trust and loyalty along the way. We also need to earn the trust of the team and others that we hope to have on the show.
The goal is going to be to have fun with it, promote the BC Lions, the Canadian Football League and become one of your go to sources for BC Lions Football discussion.
